Anders Sandberg

Anders Sandberg is a senior research fellow at the Future of Humanity Institute at the University of Oxford. His research at FHI centers on management of low-probability high-impact risks, estimating the capabilities of future technologies, the ethics of human enhancement, and very long-range futures.

He is also a senior research fellow at the Oxford Martin School, research associate to the Oxford Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics, the Oxford Centre for Neuroethics, the Center for the Study of Bioethics (Belgrade) and the Institute for Futures Studies (Stockholm). He is on the advisory boards of a number of organizations and often debates science and ethics in international media.

Anders has a background in computer science, neuroscience, and medical engineering. He obtained his Ph.D. in computational neuroscience from Stockholm University, Sweden, for work on neural network modeling of human memory.

Anders perhaps most important contribution to transhumanism was his early web-pages (now archived at http://www.aleph.se/Trans/ ) listing transhumanist resources online, acting as a hub in the 1990s for people discovering transhumanism. He was a co-founder of the Swedish Transhumanist Association in 1996 and the World Transhumanist Association (now Humanity+) in 1998. He has also been on the board of the Extropy Institute and other transhumanist organizations.
